More than a shelter, the Bakersfield SPCA offers a variety of comprehensive services to help pets, the people who care for them and our community. All of our services are made possible by donors like you.
Adoption of homeless animals to new homes
- Adoptive families reviewed before adoption approved
- Prior to adoption, pets are spayed/neutered and micro-chipped
- Adoption includes veterinarian checkup and one month free pet insurance
Low cost spay and neutering services to pets in the community
- Critters Without Litters is Bakersfield’s only non-profit, low cost spay/neuter clinic
- Low cost cat spay/neuter clinics during the year
Micro-chip identification placement
- Available to any resident on a daily basis for $30 or at special clinics held throughout the year
Animal safety presentations to the community
- Education classes for K-12 grades
- Presentations for service groups and organizations
- Talks for senior and special needs groups
- Pet Therapy dogs that visit hospitals and senior centers
Kids and Critters Day Camps
- Providing Kern County youth with a special educational opportunity to learn responsible pet ownership and promote the human-animal bond and social responsibility
Resources for animal care and grooming services in the area
- Information on local grooming and animal care organizations
- Information for pet food resources through Bakersfield Pet Food Pantry
- Information for pet-friendly housing
- References to reliable rescue groups and animal advocates
